Strengthening Emergency Medical Services for Our Community: Upcoming EMS Levy
The Devola Volunteer Fire Company has proudly served the residents of Devola and Muskingum Township East for decades, providing both fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS) when our community needs it most. As call volumes continue to rise and the demand for timely medical care increases, we are taking an important step to strengthen our EMS coverage.
What Is the EMS Levy About?
The upcoming EMS levy is designed to extend paid EMS coverage into weekend daytime hours, ensuring that residents have access to consistent, reliable emergency medical care not just during the week, but when it’s needed most.
Currently, Devola Volunteer Fire Company provides paid EMS staffing Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Outside of those hours, we rely heavily on volunteers to respond to emergencies.
This levy will allow us to:
- Provide dedicated, paid EMS staffing on weekends during daytime hours
- Improve response times for medical emergencies
- Ensure consistent availability of trained EMS professionals
- Better meet the growing needs of our community
Why Is This Needed?
Weekend daytime hours are some of the busiest times for EMS calls. Families are home, activities are taking place, and medical emergencies don’t take a break.
At the same time, like many departments across the country, we are experiencing:
- Decreased volunteer availability during daytime hours
- Increased call volume for EMS services
- A greater need for reliable, rapid response to medical emergencies
By expanding paid coverage, we can ensure that when you call 911, help is on the way—quickly and consistently.
What This Means for You
If approved, the EMS levy will:
- Enhance public safety across Devola and Muskingum Township East
- Reduce wait times for emergency medical care
- Support a more dependable EMS system
- Help protect your family, neighbors, and community
This is an investment in life-saving services—because in an emergency, every minute matters.
A Call for Community Support—and Volunteers
While this levy strengthens our EMS system, volunteers remain the backbone of our department.
We are always looking for individuals willing to serve their community. Whether you’re interested in EMS, firefighting, or support roles, there is a place for you at Devola Volunteer Fire Company.

Together, we can continue to protect and serve Devola and Muskingum Township East—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
